Documentary Brand Photography for a Jewellery Designer in Amsterdam
For this project, I joined jewellery designer Dori inside her Amsterdam workshop while she created one of her pieces.
Rather than photographing only the finished jewellery, we documented the process behind it: her hands at work, the tools she used, the workshop environment, and the small details involved in transforming an idea into a physical object.
This type of documentary brand photography is especially valuable for artists, designers and makers. A finished product can show what you sell, but photographs of the creative process help people understand the skill, time and personality behind the work.
Showing the person behind the product
Before photographing a creative business, I consider the complete story:
- Who is creating the work?
- Which materials and tools are important?
- What makes the process distinctive?
- How should the workspace feel in the photographs?
- Where will the images be used?
For Dori’s session, the workshop was an essential part of the story. It gave the photographs texture and context while allowing her to continue working naturally.
The resulting collection included portraits, details of the jewellery, photographs of the creative process and wider images of the environment. Together, they created a more complete visual introduction to both the maker and her work.
Behind-the-scenes photography can provide artists and businesses with useful content for websites, social media, editorial features and press materials. More importantly, it helps potential clients connect with the real person and process behind each creation.
If you are an artist, maker, or creative business in Amsterdam and would like your process documented, contact me to discuss your project.
