The Key to a Perfect Engagement Proposal at Keukenhof: Preparation, Timing, and Trust - She said Yes!

The key to a meaningful engagement proposal is preparation. Not to control the moment, but to give it space to happen naturally.

These photos were taken during a proposal at Keukenhof Gardens. Early in the day, before the paths filled up, we walked slowly through the gardens, letting the colours and the quiet set the pace. From the outside, it looked like a normal visit. Two people walking, stopping, talking, enjoying the flowers. Nothing felt staged. Nothing felt rushed.

The proposal happened gently, without drawing attention. I stayed at a distance, photographing as if I were just another visitor. The surprise stayed intact, and the moment belonged fully to them. Afterwards, we kept walking. There was laughter, time to breathe, time to let everything sink in. The session became less about the question itself and more about being together, surrounded by a place that already felt special.

This is how I like these sessions to unfold. Calm, unforced, and guided by what the couple is feeling in that moment, with Keukenhof quietly doing its part in the background. The first week of May is one of the most beautiful from my point of view, as the rush of April crowds stops, and we have the last tulips of the season in complete bloom.
