Business photography

“Joanna was very open and friendly, very communicative with me before and during the shoot. She knows the city centre of Amsterdam like the back of her hand since she’s been living here for several years, and was also able to share some of its interesting history. She listened to what I wanted out of this shoot and really delivered. She also knew how to capture amazing backgrounds in various parts along the canals, how to find the best natural lighting for me, and talked me through various poses. I love the results!”

Personal branding during a business trip to Amsterdam
Alexandria is a travel professional who wanted a collection of photographs created during her visit to Amsterdam. The images needed to show both her personality and her connection with travel, while remaining polished enough to use in her business.

Photographing different business owners in the same city presents an interesting challenge. Amsterdam’s canals and historic streets may be familiar, but every person has a different brand, audience, and reason for needing photographs. The goal is not to repeat the same poses and locations for everyone. It is to create a visual story that feels specific to the person and their work.

Before a personal branding session, I ask questions about:
- the business and its audience;
- where the photographs will be used;
- the qualities the person wants to communicate;
- the balance between professional and approachable;
- the formats needed for websites, social media or press;
- the locations and atmosphere that support the brand.

These conversations help me select the route, backgrounds, light, and level of direction for the session. In Alexandria’s case, Amsterdam itself became part of the story. The canals supported her identity as a travel professional while giving her a varied collection of portraits for her business.

A business trip can be an opportunity to create new brand content without organising a separate production day. With the right planning, we can build a useful collection of photographs while you experience the city.
