Recognize this tower?

This is the Waagtoren in Alkmaar, part of the historic Weigh House. Originally built in the 14th century as a chapel next to a guest house, it later became a weighing house and the heart of the city’s famous cheese market.

If you visit on a Friday during spring and summer, you can experience the traditional cheese weighing in action. It’s one of the most beautiful markets in The Netherlands and will be back from March 28th, 2025. But Alkmaar is so much more than its cheese market. You can feel its rich history in the stunning architecture, and beautiful streets and canals that take you back in time.
