It’s one of the most common questions I receive before a session:
Can we find a quiet or secluded area in Keukenhof?
The short answer is no. If there are tulips, there are people.

The reality of Keukenhof
Keukenhof is one of the most visited spring gardens in the world.
The paths are wide, the gardens are spacious, and there are moments that feel calm. But truly secluded areas, especially during peak bloom, do not really exist.
And that’s important to understand before visiting.

What you can expect
While you won’t find empty gardens, you will find areas that feel quieter.
There are corners where:
- fewer people pass
- movement is slower
- the space feels more open
These are not hidden locations. They are simply places where the flow of people is lighter.

The best times to visit
If you’re looking for fewer people, timing helps.
- Early morning (around 8:00)
- Late afternoon (after 17:00)
These times don’t make the gardens empty, but they do make them feel more manageable.
It’s the difference between a constant flow of people and a softer rhythm.

How I approach it as a photographer
When I work in Keukenhof, I don’t rely on finding empty spaces.
Instead, I work with:
- angles
- distance
- direction of light
- and positioning within the garden
Sometimes, just turning a few degrees changes everything.
And when needed, I refine the image in post-production to remove casual crossers in the background.

What this means for your experience
You don’t need a completely empty garden to have a beautiful moment.
The idea is simple: You focus on your experience. I take care of everything else.

A different way to see it
Keukenhof is not meant to be empty. It’s part of the atmosphere. People walking, stopping, reacting to the flowers.
Instead of trying to avoid it completely, the experience becomes about finding small moments within it.

If your goal is complete privacy, Keukenhof may not be the right place.
But if your goal is to experience the tulip season in a beautiful setting, with guidance on how to move through it calmly, it can still feel very personal.
In the end, it’s not about finding an empty garden.
It’s about finding your moment within it.
See you soon in Amsterdam,
