A Couple Photo Session in Amsterdam: Finding a Dry Moment Between the Rain

Amsterdam weather asks for a little flexibility, especially when you are visiting for only a few days. Rain can show up in the forecast, plans can change, and it is easy to worry that your photos will feel rushed or compromised.

For this couple’s session, the original time no longer looked promising. Rather than continuing with the plan simply because it was already scheduled, we adjusted the timing to stay ahead of the rain.

That small change gave us space to enjoy the experience.

We walked through Amsterdam while the streets were still dry, paused beside the canal houses, and let the city become part of their photographs. There was no need to hurry or force the session through bad weather. The goal was always for them to feel comfortable together and enjoy the city around them.

When the forecast is mixed, I watch the timing closely and stay in contact with my clients. Sometimes that means starting earlier, waiting for a dry window, or moving the session within the same morning or afternoon. The photography time remains theirs, but we use it in the way that gives us the best possible experience.

Afterward, they shared that I had helped them find a time to beat the rain, made them feel comfortable, and taught them more about Amsterdam along the way. They described the photographs as “a one-of-a-kind gift from Amsterdam,” which is exactly what I hope every couple takes home.
