Celebrating 28 Years Together With an Anniversary Photo Session in Amsterdam

This couple reached out while planning a special trip to Amsterdam to celebrate their 28th wedding anniversary. As part of that celebration, they decided to gift themselves a photo session. A way to mark the moment, slow down, and take something lasting home from the trip.

They were staying near the Pulitzer Hotel and trusted me completely to guide the experience. They were very open from the start. Sunrise was not their thing, and that was perfectly fine. We planned a relaxed morning session instead, starting close to their hotel and creating a custom walking route through the neighborhood.

One of the advantages of photographing in Amsterdam is that you do not need to travel far to find beautiful light, canals, and calm streets, especially when you know how to move with the city and the timing of the day.

At the beginning of the session, the husband felt a little reserved. That is something many people recognize, especially if being photographed does not come naturally. There was no pressure to pose or perform. We walked, talked, and let the pace stay easy. As the session unfolded, both of them relaxed into it. By the end, they shared how much they enjoyed the experience and how comfortable it felt.

What stood out most was their connection. No big gestures. No forced moments. Just two people who have shared many years together, photographed in a way that felt honest and calm. The images reflect that. Natural expressions, quiet smiles, and Amsterdam gently framing the story rather than taking it over.

This session is a good example of how I approach anniversary photography. You do not need to know the city. You do not need to love being in front of the camera. You simply need to show up. I take care of the rest, from locations and light to timing and flow.

Choosing a photo session as an anniversary gift is not about perfection. It is about memory, connection, and celebrating how far you have come together. After 28 years, that feels like a beautiful thing to honor.
