Photographs That Take You Back | Couple Photography in Amsterdam
Some photo sessions are full of energy and excitement, and others move at a slower pace. This session felt exactly like that.
Before every photo session, I like to learn a little about the people I'll be photographing. Some details come through the questionnaire, while others appear naturally during our conversations as we walk through the city. Rather than focusing only on portraits, I try to understand what people enjoy most about their travels and what they would like to remember years later.
For this couple, the experience felt relaxed from the very beginning. We spent the session walking through some of Amsterdam's quieter canals, stopping whenever the light felt beautiful or when a corner of the city caught our attention. There was no rush to move from one location to the next. The goal was simply to enjoy the afternoon and create photographs that reflected their time together in the city.
One of the things I remember most from this session is how naturally they interacted with each other. She often helped him relax in front of the camera, and together they created the kind of photographs that feel effortless and genuine.
As the session continued, Amsterdam gave us an unexpected gift: a beautiful rainbow appeared above the canals. Moments like that cannot be planned. They simply happen, and when they do, they become part of the story.
When I look back at these photographs, I don't only see portraits, I see a walk through Amsterdam, quiet conversations beside the water, small discoveries along the canals, and a reminder that sometimes the photographs people treasure most are the ones that bring them back to how a place felt.
Are you coming to Amsterdam? I would love to help capture your story.
See you soon,
Joanna
