I had the joy of photographing a sweet family of four on April 2nd, right in the heart of tulip season’s early days. Their vision was clear: they wanted a lifestyle-focused shoot, full of real, candid moments with minimal posing. Their daughters, aged 2 and 4, brought the magic, and Keukenhof delivered the color.


Making the Most of a Tight Timeline

The family flew in that very afternoon, landing at Schiphol and arriving at Keukenhof by 2:30 PM. Despite the travel and tight schedule, we kicked off their one-hour session at 3:00 PM. The late afternoon light was soft and flattering, and the gardens, though popular, offered us hidden gems perfect for an intimate shoot.


Why Early April Works

Many visitors worry that early April might be too soon for tulips to be in full bloom. But Keukenhof, with its expertly curated plantings, already had a stunning variety of flowers blossoming. From vibrant tulip beds to winding tree-lined paths, the scenery was bursting with color and charm. The photos speak for themselves: lush backdrops, wide open spaces, and not a crowd in sight in the final frames.


The Power of a Candid Approach

The family wanted natural images that reflected their love, joy, and connection: not stiff, traditional poses. That vision guided our entire shoot. We explored quieter corners, encouraged the girls to play and explore, and gently guided moments without forcing them. The result? A collection of warm, authentic images that feel both magical and true.
