A Family Trip to Amsterdam Around Taylor Swift's concert time in Amsterdam
Some trips are planned around museums. Some around food. And some around music.
This family came to Amsterdam for the Taylor Swift concerts, and their time in the city was limited. They wanted to make the most of one morning, not only with beautiful photos, but with an experience that felt intentional and memorable. That is exactly the kind of window I love to create.
Optimising Time Without Rushing
When families travel for big events like concerts, every hour matters. Instead of choosing only one location, we designed a morning that included both Amsterdam and Zaanse Schans. It sounds ambitious, but with the right planning, it becomes smooth.
We started in Amsterdam, capturing soft, relaxed images in the city before the crowds fully arrived. Then we navigated public transport together, just like locals do. I don’t just point at the train and say “go there.” I go with them.
We take the train together. We talk. We answer questions. We turn the journey into part of the experience.
The Magic of Zaanse Schans
The train from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans is short, but the walk from the station into the village is part of the charm. On the way, we talk about the chocolate industry. Sometimes you can actually smell chocolate in the air. For kids, that detail alone becomes a story they will remember.
Then, slowly, the windmills begin to appear. Not all at once. Not like stepping off a tourist bus. But gradually, as you walk closer. For children, that moment feels magical. It feels discovered rather than delivered.
More Than a Photo Session
What I love most about mornings like this is that I am not only photographing. I am guiding, translating, navigating, explaining, and answering the many questions that naturally come up.
- Why are the houses green?
- How old are the windmills?
- Why does it smell like chocolate?
There is time for all of it.
These are not rushed portraits between locations. They are soft, natural moments that align with who this family truly is. The images from this session feel calm and genuine, even though the trip itself was packed with excitement.
Concerts and Culture Can Coexist
Travel organised around a concert can still include culture, history, and meaningful family time. You don’t have to choose between experiences. You just need to design them well.
This session is a beautiful example of how a limited morning can become one of the most memorable parts of a trip.
If you’re planning a visit to Amsterdam around a big event and want to experience the city in a way that feels local, thoughtful, and beautifully documented, I would love to help you design that window.
See you in Amsterdam,
Joanna
