Visiting tulip gardens is one of the highlights of spring in the Netherlands. From the last week of March until the end of April, tulip season transforms the landscape into a sea of color, making it the most popular time of year for visitors coming to Amsterdam.

For my photo sessions, I intentionally work only in established tulip gardens, such as Keukenhof and similar curated locations. I do not photograph in commercial tulip fields. Walking between the rows damages the bulbs underground, which are the true product of these farms. Respecting the growers and the land is essential to preserving the tulip season for future years.

A Quiet Morning at Keukenhof

The photos you see here are from a spring photo session at Keukenhof Gardens, one of the most iconic places to experience tulip season in the Netherlands.

We met early, at 7:00 am at Schiphol Airport, and traveled together by public transport to the gardens. Starting early makes a huge difference during tulip season. We walked quickly to our first location to enjoy the calm before the crowds arrived, then moved smoothly through the park as it became busier.

Knowing where to go, when to pause, and how to work with light and space allows us to create images that feel peaceful, even during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

If you’re visiting Amsterdam during tulip season, I recommend booking early. Availability is limited, and mornings fill up quickly due to light conditions and crowd control.
