Not every photo session needs a big plan or a long checklist. Some of the most meaningful ones come from slowing down, walking, and letting the city do its part.
This session was planned to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary. The goal was simple: a mix of fun, playful moments and a few quieter, romantic ones. Nothing staged. Nothing rushed.
We met and started walking, covering as many locations as made sense within the time, always keeping the rhythm relaxed. Between photos, there was a conversation. Stories. Small pauses. That space in between matters because it helps people forget about the camera and focus on being together.
They were a genuinely lovely couple, open and curious, and that made the experience flow naturally. We moved through different corners of Jordaan, adjusting as we went, choosing spots that felt right in the moment rather than sticking to a fixed route.
This is often how I work: I guide the session, but I also listen. If something feels good, we stay with it. If the energy shifts, we move on. The result is a set of images that reflect not just how the city looks, but how the experience felt. They allowed full shareability, so this is one of the few I can share all the pictures taken on the day.
After the session, they shared this:
“Joanna was just lovely. Very knowledgeable and friendly.”
For me, that says as much as the photos themselves. When people feel comfortable, seen, and at ease, it shows in the images. And when the experience feels good, the memories attached to those photos last far beyond the day itself.
So glad to show you a complete session and until next time in Amsterdam,
Joanna
