Capturing Milestones: A Heartwarming Family Photo Session in Amsterdam's Jordaan District

There’s something truly special about capturing a family’s milestones, especially when it all comes full circle in a place that already holds so many memories.


On January 30th at 10am, during the quiet, golden light of Amsterdam’s winter morning, I photographed a beautiful family of four on their international adventure. This was a session full of meaning: not only was it their baby son's first trip abroad and their 4-year-old daughter’s first time in Amsterdam, but it was also a return to the very place where the parents got engaged years ago, on a romantic bridge in De Jordaan, near Prinsengracht and Brouwersgracht.


Photos with Purpose and Play

From the start, the family’s vision was clear:

“We’re looking to capture some fun shots of our family. We’ve had photo sessions on all of our international trips and plan to continue the tradition!”

We began the walk near Anne Frank Huis, capturing candid smiles, sibling giggles, and quiet moments. Navigating the cobblestone streets and iconic canals, we headed toward the exact bridge where the couple had gotten engaged, bringing their story full circle with their two little ones in tow.


A Kid-Friendly, Care-Filled Experience

It’s not easy photographing two young children, but creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere is always my priority. The parents shared:

"Joanna is awesome! She is so patient, welcoming, friendly, and kind, which helped our kids feel at home immediately. She takes all the safety precautions on small roads with loads of people, bikes, and cars, which helped us all to feel very comfortable."


It’s moments like these: first trips, favorite cities, family legacies, that deserve to be documented with care. This session was not just about pretty pictures (though the backdrop of Jordaan and Brouwersgracht is certainly stunning), but about telling a family story that will grow with them for years.
