"We are a bit shy and a little awkward when it comes to posing. But with guidance, we can make it look cute. We'd like candid engagement photos. We like flowers, nature and water... just anything that looks cute."

Every photo session starts long before we meet. When clients complete my questionnaire, they're not just answering a few administrative questions. They're giving me the information I need to design a session around them.

This couple told me they loved nature, wanted their engagement photographs to feel candid rather than posed, and preferred a quiet setting where they could simply enjoy being together. Instead of following my usual route, I spent time scouting different parks across Amsterdam before the session.

After visiting several locations, Westerpark stood out immediately. It had everything they were looking for: natural surroundings, quiet paths, beautiful greenery, water, and enough variety to create a gallery that felt relaxed and effortless.

A few days before the session, Europe was in the middle of a heatwave. Starting just thirty minutes earlier made a huge difference. The light was softer, the park was quieter, and we could enjoy the morning before the temperature climbed.

What I love most about this session is that it reminds me that every couple has a different vision, and my job is to find the place that best matches it. Sometimes that's Amsterdam's canals and others it's a peaceful park where the only thing you need to focus on is each other.
